Advocacy Organizations

Advocacy Organizations are those for which any Latino-related media issues are part, but not the main goals, of the organization. The organizations listed here usually have broad-based community concerns as their main focus, and media related issues may be included as part of the overall advocacy agendas.

National Council of La Raza
The largest national Latino civil rights and advocacy organization in the United Sates, NCLR works to improve opportunities for Hispanic Americans. The National Council of La Raza is the largest constituency-based Hispanic organization in the United States, representing over 220 community-based organizations and serving more than three million Latinos annually. The ALMA awards and the Media Advocacy Project are among NCLR's media-related activities and interests.

National Latino Children's Institute
NLCI focuses the nation's attention on policies, programs, and community initiatives that lead to the full and healthy development of Latino children. One of NLCI's basic rights for all children states: "Children have the right to see themselves positively and accurately reflected in literature, music, film, media, and other forms of artistic expression."

League of United Latin American Citizens
The Mission of the League of United Latin American Citizens is to advance the economic condition, educational attainment, political influence, health and civil rights of the Hispanic population of the United States. LULAC is non-profit organization founded in 1927 dedicated to promoting equality for Hispanics in education, employment, and civil rights.
